A new village was built after the war on a nearby site, but on the orders of the then French president, Charles de Gaulle, the original has been maintained as a permanent memorial. Between 1900 and 1910, Louis Tauzin painted a series of watercolours of spa towns (Saint-Alban-les-Eaux, Évian, Vichy) which were used as models for postcards.
