This charming vintage advertising card from the late 19th century depicts a lively French fairground scene. The front features a colorful illustration bustling with people in period attire, centered around various attractions. Visible elements include a 'Théâtre de la Famille - Drame en 5 actes' (Family Theatre - Drama in 5 acts) and an early Ferris wheel with a sign 'Défense de se tenir debout' (Do not stand). An ice cream vendor, known as 'La Voiture de l'Italienne,' is prominent, serving customers.
The reverse side of the card contains promotional text for 'La voiture de L'l'Italienne,' inviting passersby to indulge in sweet treats. It reads, in part: 'Glace, qui veut des glaces? Qui de vous n'a entendu cet appel dans les fêtes foraines? La marchande... cherche à éveiller chez les passants un léger sentiment de gourmandise...' (Ice cream, who wants ice cream? Who among you hasn't heard this call at the fairgrounds? The vendor... seeks to awaken in passersby a slight feeling of gluttony...). The text further mentions 'berlingots' (hard candies) as an alternative for those with sensitive teeth.
