This document is a late 19th-century fantasy or motto card, often called a 'carte à devise.' These popular novelty items featured humorous illustrations, designed with an empty space for personalization. The card depicts a very corpulent, jovial man of East Asian appearance, wearing a robe and an elaborate necklace. He has a wide smile and a long mustache and beard. His large, oval-shaped belly is left entirely blank, serving as the designated area for custom text from printers, merchants, or individuals.

The man is shown reclining on a patterned rug, surrounded by rich decorative elements, contributing to an Orientalist theme. To his left, an ornate vase and a smaller bottle sit, while behind him, a stylized, feathered ornament holds two medallions with figures. On the right, a multi-paneled folding screen displays various East Asian figures. This antique card offered a unique and engaging way to share a whimsical message or promote a business during the 1880s to 1890s.
