This lot features two charming chromolithograph trade cards, advertising the dental practice of L. Feindel, a 'chirurgien-dentiste' (surgeon-dentist) located at 98, Faubourg St-Antoine and 87, Avenue Ledru-Rollin in Paris. These vibrant cards, typical of late 19th-century marketing, were designed to attract clientele with engaging illustrations and humorous riddles.

One card depicts two young boys, one dressed as a fencer and the other in an apron, posing next to a foil. Below them, the riddle asks, 'En quoi les escrimeurs ressemblent-ils aux bottiers?' (How are fencers like shoemakers?). The second card shows a boy with a large sack over his shoulder, carrying a staff. Its riddle reads, 'Savez vous pourquoi la toiture des halles n'a pas coûté cher?' (Do you know why the market roof wasn't expensive?). The reverse side of each card lists various dental services and their prices in francs, including 'extraction sans douleur et sans endormir' (extraction without pain and without anesthesia) and 'pose de dents inaltérables' (placement of unalterable teeth).
