This lot features two exquisite French trade cards, also known as chromos, originally issued by the Chocolat Ibled brand. These vibrant advertising pieces from the late 19th century showcase prominent historical figures, serving as both promotional material and educational inserts for consumers.

One card illustrates Isaac Newton, the famous physicist and mathematician, standing beside a globe with a pair of dividers. The text 'Chocolat Ibled' (Ibled Chocolate) appears at the top, and 'Newton' is printed below his image. The second card depicts Xavier Bichat, a renowned French anatomist and physiologist, in the midst of a medical procedure. Below the 'Chocolat Ibled' header, the name 'Bichat' identifies the depicted scientist.

The reverse of both cards prominently displays 'Chocolat Ibled' and the location 'Paris Mondicourt.' Faint purple stamp impressions are also visible, one indicating 'Épicerie de Choix Spécialité de Cafés [...] Auxerre,' which translates to 'Grocery of Choice Coffee Specialty [...] Auxerre,' highlighting the retail point where these chocolates were sold. These cards offer a glimpse into historical advertising and cultural dissemination of knowledge.
