This authentic vintage French First Communion menu from 1924 is a beautiful relic of a significant religious celebration. Dated June 15, 1924, and commemorating the First Communion of Maurice Halbourt in Neuville, this menu card presents an exquisite example of early 20th-century devotional ephemera. The front cover boasts an elegant embossed design, featuring an ornate oval frame adorned with delicate gilded floral motifs, including charming roses and foliage. At the top of the oval, a finely detailed raised illustration depicts a serene church or chapel nestled within a landscape, possibly indicating a snowy or mountainous region, adding to its unique charm.
The menu unfolds to reveal the detailed culinary offerings for both Déjeuner (lunch) and Dîner (dinner), providing a fascinating glimpse into French gastronomic traditions of the era. The Déjeuner features classic dishes such as Potage Saint-Germain, Turbot À La Neva, Canards Bouquetière, Dindonneau Truffé, and a variety of entremets and desserts. The Dîner, a more elaborate affair, includes Potage Colbert, Noix Et Ris De Veau Comtesse, Vol-au-Vent À La Toulouse, Gigot De Pré-Salé, Langouste En Belle-Vue, and a selection of Gâteaux Variés, complemented by Champagne and Liqueurs.
This document serves as a historical record of a personal family event and a testament to the elegant stationery popular during the 1920s.
