1910s - French Sainte Catherine Postcard - Hand-Tinted Floral Still Life - Vintage Greeting Card - Antique French Catherinettes Day Ephemera

This antique 1910s French Sainte Catherine postcard features a beautiful hand-tinted floral still life. A vintage greeting card, it showcases a delicate bouquet in an elegant white pitcher, adorned with traditional French sentiments for Catherinettes Day, offering a charming piece of collectible ephemera. The card's warm sepia tones are enhanced by vibrant, hand-applied colors on the blossoms and the ornate pitcher, creating a visually rich and evocative image.

The central image is a refined ceramic pitcher, intricately painted with subtle floral and wheat stalk motifs in gentle green, yellow, and blue hues. From this vessel, a lavish assortment of flowers overflows, including prominent purple daisies, deep burgundy roses, and ethereal light pink blooms, all framed by delicate foliage. Resting gracefully at the base of the pitcher is a single, rich red rosebud, adding a touch of romantic detail to the composition.

Prominently displayed on the card are the elegant script greetings, 'Vive St Catherine' and 'Bonne Fete,' celebrating Sainte Catherine's Day. This traditional French holiday, observed on November 25th, is notably associated with unmarried women aged 25, known as 'Catherinettes.' They traditionally wear elaborate green and yellow hats, making this postcard a wonderful historical artifact reflecting a unique cultural practice and a heartfelt vintage greeting. It is a unique collectible.
