This exquisite religious card, dating from the 1910s, commemorates a significant spiritual event. The front features a vibrant depiction of 'The Last Supper' with Jesus and his disciples, accented by delicate gold embossing highlighting the halos and a chalice. Above the scene, the 'IHS' Christogram is prominently displayed, also in gold. Below the central image, a gold-embossed medallion showcases a chalice and host, symbolizing the Eucharist. The textured card surface includes a prayer in elegant French: 'que le Corps de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ garde mon âme pour la vie éternelle.' (May the Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ keep my soul for eternal life.)
The reverse side of the card confirms its origin as a 'Souvenir de la Première Communion' (Souvenir of the First Communion) for 'Pierre Vassal.' It details the location, 'Église de Tillières-sur-Avre' (Church of Tillières-sur-Avre), and the precise date of 'Le 30 Juin 1912' (June 30, 1912). This historical artifact offers a beautiful glimpse into early 20th-century religious traditions and personal milestones.
