This pair of vintage French religious prayer cards, likely from the early 20th century by Bonamy Edition, features chromolithography with distinct sacred imagery and French text. Their scalloped edges are typical of historical devotional ephemera.
The first card shows a girl kneeling before the Child Jesus holding a chalice. The text, 'Ô Jésus, embrassez mon cœur afin que je ne vive plus que pour vous aimer,' translates to 'O Jesus, embrace my heart so that I may live only to love you,' expressing spiritual devotion.
The second card depicts Jesus administering Holy Communion to kneeling children before an altar. The inscription, 'Seigneur, voici les prémices de nos cœurs. faites que le contact de votre Hostie Sainte les gardent innocents et purs. (P. Eymard.)' translates as 'Lord, here are the first fruits of our hearts. May the contact of your Holy Host keep them innocent and pure.' These cards offer insight into historical faith and art.
