This captivating advertising card from the 1900s features a delightful illustration titled 'Sérénades de Carnaval. Dans la Gondole.' (Carnival Serenades. In the Gondola.). The artwork depicts a moonlit scene where two Commedia dell'arte figures, Harlequin and Pierrot, serenade from a gondola. Two women, identified as Colombine and Pierrette, watch from a balcony above, creating a whimsical and romantic ambiance. The golden border adds an ornate touch, characteristic of the Belle Époque era.

Promoting 'Véritable Extrait de Viande Liebig' (Genuine Liebig Meat Extract), a small tin of the product is subtly integrated into the design at the bottom left.

The reverse side of the card presents a recipe for 'Pigeons à la bourgeoise' and highlights the nutritional benefits of Liebig's meat peptone. (The Liebig Company's Meat Peptone, because of its extreme digestibility and high nutritional value, constitutes an excellent strengthening food for weak, anemic, sick people, and especially for those who suffer from stomach ailments. For sale at major pharmacists.)

This piece of vintage ephemera offers a fascinating glimpse into early 20th-century advertising and popular culture, blending art with product promotion. It's a wonderful collectible for enthusiasts of historical advertisements and Commedia dell'arte themes.
